Oh cake, proper coffee and perhaps damp dog with an accent of burning wood or coal. When I die, if I go to heaven, that's what I want it to smell like, with perhaps wet leaves and vegetation and the sound of a strong wind shooshing in the trees.

Smell of the sea in the background would be nice, too.

So many wonderful smells, newly baked bread, freshly ground coffee, cake - but what I like best of all is to bury my nose in the horse's mane and take a deep breath.

But I know what you mean. For me it's the smell of newly clipped wool - they thought me a bit strange at clipping time: every time I gathered up a fleece I stuck my nose in it and took a deep breath! Mind you, not all breeds smell the same. I particularly like the smell of my friend's Merinos.

What about the smell of fresh seafood? I was delighted that a new independent fishmonger opened near us. I can now (with apologies to the vegetarians) buy fresh fish and raw prawns. Yum, yum. Now my house smells of fish!

Oh at last other people who hate synthetic air freshner smells and like animal smells like horse and dog!! Why would anyone spray a synthestic smell over something that smells bad already- open a window for goodness sake!!

Fresh baking is a great houshold smell, travels right through the house naturally. This is real aromatheraphy.

Mmm yummy - I love the smell of a horse - and recently met with the wonderful smell of freshly clipped wool too (Romneys) was loathe to 'scour' it but had to kill the bugs

Lavender fields in Sussex are quite superb, are they supposed to be calming? :)

One of the real dizzy-making scents was in my Mum's garden - a Kiftsgate rose that was growing up the remains of an old elm and a mock-orange blossom in the hedge that would intertwine physically and in scent and were (are still I hope) quite heavenly

Thankfully I live on a quiet street in a small town so I can leave my windows open slightly 24/7. There's mint growing wild outside my laundry and a 1/4 acre 'paddock' beside my house that has long grass and currently a horse but usually sheep. I'm thinking of planting daphne way down the back and lavender, basil, sage, etc in containers near the house. I love the smell of rain

I'm amazed at the amount of smells that are put into things because I'm not used to it. I shampoo with baking soda and condition with apple cider vinegar so once my hair dries it smells like hair whereas my sister uses some commercial stuff and I can smell her showering from the other end of the house. I moisterise with olive oil (or a moisteriser my doctor gave me that has no smells or any other 'enhancements') then I ended up having a sneezing fit when I was given a sample of commercial moisteriser lol. My laundry is washed with a 1/4 dose of ecostore laundry powder and whitener and baking soda, then rinsed, then rinsed again with vinegar. The washing comes out of the machine smelling like... nothing. I clean my house with vinegar and baking soda instead of artificially fragranced cleaners, I prefer the subtle natural smells that waft in from outside.

Getting rid of bad smells: open all windows slightly and open all internal doors fully and heat vinegar and water in a pot so it steams. The vinegar will get rid of the other smells and then goes away itself. I use this after dd has done an offensively smelly explosion.

If you like the smell of strawberries you can place the over ripe ones on a sunny window sill. Oranges studded with cloves hung in wardrobes or placed in drawers. Bunch of lavendar (or other fragrant plant you like) tied and placed in a warm area.

my rosemary bush, james after a day at work- the smell of metal swarf, engine oil and general 'Jimsmell' (so long as he's not been virtually bathing in red diesel!) and the smell of the back of sophie's neck. I love to bury my nose in her hair where it curls and take a long deep breath. I find it strangely calming, especially if she's just been dried after a bath. actually, I love sniffing jim's neck too.

oh, and my favorite perfume. Ghost Original. I get one bottle of it a year depending on how finances are around my birthday. last year i could only afford 30mls and it only lasted me until august. it reminds me of the happiest times in my life; my wedding day, honeymoon...
I've been using sample bottles since aug and sparingly. I think all the local perfume shops know me now and I'm sure I've cleared them out of Ghost samples lol!

I hate the smell of impulse body sprays 'cos they remind me of PE lessons at senior school.

Just can't stop my OH using spray deodorant- yuk, sticks in my throat

Do you guys have a secret supply of bulk bicarb? If you use it as shampoo and house cleaning those little tubs can't last long
