Hei from Sweden, I live in a 300 year old log cabin, in the middle of a forest. Four freezing winters with an outside loo, (see pic) and I decided to upgrade to new indoor facilities, (see pic). The new loo has, during the winter months, a small heater inside, together with a small ventilating fan using 300W per hour..that I run for 1 hour a day. The chamber is charged with sphagnum moss and wood chips...six months later, a draw can be pulled out and the compost can go straight onto the garden or compost heap. This is my second loo of this type, I had one in my cabin in Norway and it's certfied for use in "off mains areas", just great after suffering many a minus 15C visitation in both countries!
My new bathroom is serviced by pumping water from my well into a 1,000 liter tank, an automatic pump then delivers it on demand to bathroom and kitchen. Additional hot water, for hand washing and cleaning in the kitchen comes from a milk churn full of water placed on top of one of my wood-burners...A by-product is that the 50 liters of hot water at end of the day acts like a storage heater, keeping the kitchen warm until the morning!
