What brought you here?
Re: What brought you here?
Lets all just try to take it easy here. I don't think anything said was intended to give offense.
Perhaps we all need to remember that we all come from different backgrounds and beliefs here.
We need to be able to discuss and share our opinions, but lets all try to respect each others view points.
Can we get back on topic, this had been such a lovely thread....

Re: What brought you here?
I left another forum (which I paid for the privilege of being a member!) due to overmoderation and people getting offended to easily (I believe flounced is the term for what I did-BTW I wasn't being overmoderated myself and I am thinking I wasn't offending people but I just don't like the "nanny state" way of moderating)) and went madly searching for another- lo and behold I found Ish which is the best online community I have found, especially because the disagreements that occur don't normally result in divisions and people are level headed enough to discuss things openly and frankly and from an educated, open minded view point (generally). Also I want MMM to be my mum so I figure if I hang around here long enough that will happen! I love the Ish bible and this forum and I have to say it has had a massive impact on my life, I was mad on frugality but this has evolved into an "eco-ethical-frugal" ethos due to the many helpful people here, I am eating better, have more satisfaction in my life, I am growing PSB and now I have to go and fence off some of the yard so I can grow somethings in my wee garden without the rescue hens eating it all.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

Welllllllll
wasn't expecting that either.
And to Jessiebean - I love you to bits cos you make me laugh so much - you can be my daughter any day!
Erm what was the topic?
Oh yes, like a lot of others I googled 'self sufficiency' and right up the top there was this site. Have just done it again and I'm really pleased to see we are no. 2 behind Wikipedia on Google.
I only looked in for about 2 mins before I decided to join - I'd like to thank Nev and a girl called Shiney who doesn't post here any more for making me join, feel welcome and stay all within the space of about 5 minutes.
And that, as they say, is history.

Re: What brought you here?
I flicked through the book at a 'home exhibition' that we'd driven 2 hours for. When we got there & paid our 10 euros entrance fee each, it was pants.
I was hoping to see lots of home & garden ideas, as we were tentatively thinking of buying a house here in Ireland after a year of renting.
In the gift shop of the building, the SS Bible was there... yep, I flicked... I liked what I saw, I came home & joined the site!
A few weeks later, I'd bought the book - and the house!!
Well, actually we bought the garden, I couldn't tell you a thing about the house before we moved in - but I knew exactly how I wanted the garden - sort of getting there 3 years later!
As for the other type of bible literature - along with ghosts, aliens & leprechauns, it is filed away in my head under the heading 'To Be Proved'.
Until I see proof, it's fantasy. No offence meant to anyone, just my personal beliefs.

Re: What brought you here?
Got to say, this place is like one big family - lovely sisters, motherly types, dads and annoying brothers.
I gave up on forums a few years back after getting bored of trolls and being told that any opinion I did share was because of my age. My opinions haven't really changed since - I always wondered if they didn't, what reason would they give me for being wrong when they couldn't use my age?
Anyway, this is officially the best forum ever. I'm very grateful to Mr H and all the rest of you gorgeous people xx

Re: What brought you here?
This forum, the book and JS' tome were also responsible for our descion to up sticks and move to France to live the selfsufficient lifestyle.
Still waiting for our house in Britain to sell however. Tres frustrating.

Are you saying that where you call yourself Colour it Green they figure out you're a girl easier?red wrote:oh yes i know that feeling and picked out the name 'red' really quickly... stuck with it all these years - and having to tell people I'm a girl..
