Thanks, Jill, and that's really interesting about the sugar - I get the hangover feeling as well, but I never thought about whether it was affecting my sinuses, I will have to keep an eye out. SJ - your dental problems don't sound much fun. That is what made my sinus problems worse as well (botched root canal, huge infection, spread to sinuses, huge performance to cure) and I really sympathise, it isn't one of my more pleasant memories!

Dunno if anyone's mentioned it, but garlic is the respiratory system's bessie mate!

It works by making the mucus less sticky, so when you blow, more snot emerges, and less gets stuck (and therefore less likely to become infected)

If you don't want to stink then take odourless garlic tablets. The best are Kyolic by Quest, but these are expensive. Holland and Barrett do loads, including a Vegan one (rare, trust me!)

If you get a cold or worse, then take garlic tablets, inhale menthol and tea tree oil, and put a few drops of each of these on your pillow at night.

Then punch whoever gave it you in the first place

I'm gonna be trying lots of these suggestions - I'm in agony and have been for the last 2 days! It's strange, no snot, no much blockage just pain from the back of my neck to my front teeth, via my ears! THe best thing so far has been a wheat bag.

Are odourless garlic capsules really odourless these days? I remember in the past having a boss taking them and we only worked in a tiny two room plus a kitchen and loo sized office, and it stank! It was absolutely horrendous!

Are you sure it wasn't an actual loo you worked in, and that's where the stink came from, hehe! The good ones don't smell, the aged and standardised extracts don't anyway. Oddly, if a person smells of garlic after ingesting it, it means they aren't metabolising it right, or aren't consuming enough. If you eat or take it on a regular basis, your body deals with it sharpish.

Glad that the remedy is helping some of you out, the mullien grows wild here its a weed, a stunning looking thing, so I have a endless supply. You can also boil it in milk (I assume goats milk would be just as good) add a spoonful of honey and drink for coughs.
I have a remedy for coughs and congestion for colds ...
mince 3 cloves of garlic add to two tablespoons of honey, two tablespoons of warm water... let it stand for a couple of hours in a warm place and take a teaspoon at a time each hour for as long as it lasts... obviously not if you plan to be around others.... not the kind of thing to take before a parents evening at the school or such... but its good.... it does work....
Lemon verbena is great stuff too.... mildly sedative, helps tubes, eases congestion , use together with fresh ginger.... check all this stuff if your on heart medicine pregnant or on anti-coagulants.... common sense really....

Go to your local Health Food Shop, get yourself a bottle of 'Antifect' - I believe it is made by Lanes, or Potters. They look like green smarties.
I inherited the joys of sinusitis, catarrah (sounds like what most of you have in your ears, to be honest - it affects the middle ear quite badly, it's what in children they often refer to as 'glue-ear' - you need to shift it! My son is currently waiting to find out if he needs an op for grommits because his fluid seems to be a reoccuring problem because it wasn't dealt with first time, IYSWIM - with adults we have a lot more ways to shift it that aren't suitable for small children).

Honestly, I tried everything - I was taking days off school with sinusitis, catarrah that lead to neuralgia (that aching in your jaw and teeth)....doctor was rubbish, just gave me antibiotics that didn't work for long. I don't have much dairy, I don't like milk other than in cheese and ice-cream, they are rare treats. The steam facials etc worked for a few hours, but then....blah!

Two Antifect tablets a day - after three days, huge improvement. By day 7, gone completely. Since then, first signs similar I pop a single pill, and it keeps it at bay. I've gone from having sinusitus 4, 5 times a year to never. Honestly.

Its main ingredient is garlic, actually! And it doesn't smell....

I ain't never heard of that veg! Other ingredients sound a bit odd too for somethng supposedly herbal, lots of chemical sounding things.

I do have a blocked nose pretty often though so might try this if I can remember to ask someone to get it for me! Can't be any worse for me than Sinex (which isn't sold in France )!

MMM - I did laugh and no it didn't hurt - but actualy the thought of sticking my entire head into a bag of warm lavender fragranced wheat rather appealed!

Antifect sounds interesting and Charcoal medicinal Vegetable sounds less aggressive than cresosote, which is what's in the catarrh pastilles my mum gave me

The charcoal is vegetable based char (as opposed to bone char) and is standardised for purity (hence medicinal) It is probably there to provide bulk or colour, as the only use medicinally I know of is to treat excessive wind!

I bet they smell good though - creosote is one of my favourite smells (along with car exhaust). Yes I know I am wierd!
