God of the woods maybe but peaceful he was not, panic & pandemonium are 2 things that he created, he was wild by nature & wild by spirit, he was quite randy & mischevious but not evil, well no more evil than any other gods of any faith I can name. Sorry I shouldn't go into my classics geekery online.

I'm more than happy for you to go into your classics geekery online  . I find it all really interesting, but not something I've ever found the time to study (yet).

I was going to post similar thoughts, and as preparation I looked up the etymology of 'panic'. It appears to originate in 1603. I've just checked 'pandemonium' (Etymology: New Latin, from Greek pan- + daimōn evil spirit) which is from 1667. I began to think that this tended more to confirm what StripyPixieSocks suggests. How much of this 'fear and negative energy' belonged to the original Pan would be interesting to know. Anybody got any links to more info about this?

The term panic was due accordingto which ever writer you believe on the battle of the titans struck fear into the masses by blowing his horn or with his roar, daemon is another tricky word just meaning spirit not neccesarily an evil one

Facing who you feel you really are is the first step, the rest you follow on instinct. :) Blessings for your path.
