Annpan, I esp. notice it with young people who play video games. It's an tho' their nerve synapses are on constant over-stimulation. It's very bizarre to listen to people whose words are full of what imaginary people have been doing, or what celebrities are up to, or what the mainstream media tells them they ought to think about anything. They are brainwashed and don't know it. Or they hum songs with words you'd never want spoken in your house.
I've noticed that very elderly people have a calmness about them that, to me, comes from having been brought up in a non-electrical world. They enjoy the conveniences, but don't see them as necessities.
I used to have the shortwave radio on several hours a day. I live near a mountain now, which blocks the reception. I don't listen but an hour or two a month now. I don't even miss it.
But, this danged internet. That's going to take some new discipline. I bought this contraption before Christmas and I don't even sit outside in the evenings anymore. Think I'll start a new thread.

BBC Breakfast and then the Wright Stuff. So er no not really.
Well as an update my girlfriend came back and she puts the telly on for Neighbours on Fiver at 7pm and then it goes off only to go on again for the Daily show on More4 at 8.30. It then goes off. I am going to start sitting in the Selfsufficientish office instead whilst it is on.
Interesting thought about the calmness old people have, my Grandad used to watch TV all the time and it drove my Nan mad. She is perhaps calmer now he is not about.

I've noticed that with older couples, when one is a tv-watcher and the other finds it irritating.
Life is calmer, more thoughtful, more real, more serene, and just much more pleasant without that contraption. I keep one with a built-in VCR to watch some old movies, but I've been thinking of putting the thing at the back of a closet, again.
I haven't noticed that television has made anyone more kind, more honest, more responsible, more of a truly thinking person, or more dependable, trustworthy, or better company. It's been around for a good sixty years now, and has ruined a great deal. I'd be for getting rid of the whole world of television. Maybe movies, too. You can tell which side of the fence I'm on, tee hee!
All that said, I do like "ish".
