I still hate them but think they are wonderful too - such amazing creatures that chew up wood to make into their fantastic nests, and then chew up insect pests to feed to their young. I did not know about the sugar thing - I just thought they were getting drunk on rotting fruit etc. The neighbour at the back has a pear tree at the end of his garden and he doesn't harvest the pears - he prefers to leave them for the wasps. I must admit that I'm not looking forward to the end of summer wasps in my garden this year. I'll pick any pears that are on our side of the fence of course and might ask him if I can pick the rest and make them into something that we could share. Can but ask.

I had a HUGE bumble bee land on my back this afternoon while I was taking photos in the garden. I heard it crash into me but couldn't get it off. :flower:
