After a couple of horrible experiences, I haven't been to the hairdresser since before Christmas. I can honestly say that my hair has never looked better. It's really dry, corse and very curly. Somehow it always goes really frizzy after being cut but now it's looking nicely curly rather than frizzy. It doesn't seem to have too many split ends either. If anything there are far fewer split ends now than just after it was cut.

You should all come to France - I've nearly always had good haircuts here and they know how to blow dry, whereas in England I always wished I'd had a bag to put over my head in order to get home from the hairdressers, where I immediately washed my hair and blow dryed it MY way!

I invested in some clippers for Jybson - oooh, about 12 months ago now. He was originally paying £7-£8 every 5-6 weeks for a haircut (plus petrol to get to the barbers). Since the clippers arrived (they were £12) he's not looked back. I cut his hair every 3-4 weeks now to 5/8".

He's also taken to not shaving - reducing the need for any disposable razors and all the paraphernalia that goes with it. His beard gets a trim to 1/8" everytime I do his hair.

Personally, I've not had my haircut since November 2007 - I used to go to the hairdressers and fork out £35+ every time - that's just ridic! I think I'll be doing the twisty ponytail thing though when I next come to trim it - thanks for the tip!

TEA: I think I only have a couple left; unfortunately a whole "meet" folder got deleted in anger after the ED Modship argument happened...(and you're none too keen on having photos taken) but I'll have a look and see!!!

ok I've found 3 detailing Tea's last shave hahaha!
they're mostly group photos so I've cropped and I've pixelated any people's faces I've not had permission to whack on Ish 'cos you never know who's out to sue your butt off, and most of the poeple in the pics I'd now not trust as far as I could comfortably spit a dead rat. Apart from Tea of course hahaha!

I really hate hairdressers, I have very long hair and haven't had it cut at a Hairdressers for getting on 20 years now.

Last time I went I cried for a week after they cut my long hair up to my shoulders and it just looked an awful mess for weeks.

My Mom is an ex-hairdresser from the 60's so her repertoire is limited so I let her cut it occasionally if I want more than the split ends taken off but I mostly just bend over, comb all my hair down and collect it all up then hack off the ends...

I have been thinking about getting it styled a little lately though because I have been growing out my fringe and it looks awful at the moment but it's expensive and... I dunno...

I once went to a hairdresser to get my hair dyed Violet which mean they would have to bleach it first and everywhere either flat out refused to do it, quoted me ridiculous prices £400+ or the one which said they would ended up trying to force me to have copper and blond highlights because they would suit me more but they would have to cut my hair shorter blah blah blah... in the end I bought a bleaching kit, the violet dye and went home and did it myself for about £10 and I had it like that for years.

I dyed it black about 4 years ago and now it's a kind of red... was supposed to be purple but Shwartzkopf don't know what the difference between bright red and Violet is and I cried when I saw how horribly red it was so when I can afford the dye again it will go back to being Black again :(

... err... anyway where was I? Oh yes... on the whole I wouldn't trust a hairdresser as far as I could spit with my hair which is kind of sad really because I'd love to get it looking nice especially for when I get married :?

I do my OH's hair... 5 minutes at No3 with the clippers and he's happy for another month or so

Well, after reading all the advice here I finally went for it and had a home haircut  !

Annpan, your description was excellent and I persuaded OH to follow it and cut my hair. It's slightly shorter than I was expecting (you were right about that!) but it looks really good. My OH did an excellent job and I'm very proud of him :hugish: . Couldn't get the hang of the 45 degree cut bit but it looks fine without doing that. Might help that my hair is curly so maybe you can't tell as much.

Prior to this haircut I hadn't had it cut for a year and a half, still looked fine though and not many split ends really. I've never much enjoyed the hairdressers and it seems a waste of money just for a trim!

I've also returned the favour for my OH and helped him trim his hair with his clippers. He brought them a few months ago and has never looked back. Much easier than going to the barbers.

my husband cuts his himself and we also do the boys... the last couple of times i've had mine cut has been at a hair dressers, but it has been 14-18 months between each time.. i'm due to give birth in 3 weeks to a girl, so not sure what we'll do when time comes for her to have her's done.. might get my mum to do it as she used to do mine until i was about 17.

I have dreads so i never have to visit the barbers

All I do is wash it and do the odd root rubbing to tighten up the roots and that's it. easy :geek:

Funny this should come up, I cut DH's hair a couple of days ago (it's past his shoulders) & he cut mine. He didn't level it around the front though so my mum came & finished it for me today
It's very short now but all the dye is gone & I can see my real hair colour for the first time in 15 years & it didn't cost a penny!
:flower:

Oh, I used to have dreads but I have a very irritable scalp that made it difficult to use natural products :(

Thankyou - glad you found my description easy to follow... having curly or 'full' hair seems to hide a multitude of sins... as long as you get the basics right and it took me a few goes before I worked out that cutting hair an inch longer than I wanted it gave me just the right length - as you will have discovered it bounces up a fair bit when it is dry.

I get nettle shampoo which is really delicate, it is from these guys I could send you down a wee sample sized bottle if you like (it is not cheap but last ages) They don't seem to sell it online unfortunately. But I could always send some down.
