I was thinking about this recently to try more cordials (I made dandelion cordial, but the recipe didn't call for citric acid)

But I was worried as in Glasgow a few years ago some vigilante poisoned the citric acid that was sold in some corner shops (in Govan) and 15 or so heroin addicts died of a vicious flesh eating disease :pale:

I would be quite happy if it was less widely available if that can happen in the supply chain somewhere :pale:

Nature is a wonderful thing. In most recipes calling for citric acid, you can bung in the juice and rind of a lemon instead. The only difference will be the taste of lemon.

I'm going to have tp give those elderflower wine recipes a go!

I'vbe got 3 empty demijohns. I did stop making wine for a while, mainly cos the coconut wine and the coffee wine were hideous!

Hopefully, the elderflower will restore my faith in home made wine!

Hmph, it just tastes like sugar water. :( Clara, did you find the flavour developed if you left it for a while in the bottles?

Hi newbie's first proper post here.
I get my citric acid from places that sell soap making ingredients - there are lots online if you do a search.
I use it to make bath fizzers :cooldude:
The trouble is shipping can be expensive - especially if you just want a bit.
Ebay is quite useful for small quantities.
I've also been lucky enough to find it in Asian foodstores.
Mind you I now use so much I get it in 5 kg buckets from soapmaking suppliers
I also buy bicarb (another key ingredient) in 12 kg sacks from my local food weigh house.
I used to get funny looks till I took some bath fizzers in for the ladies behind the counter :profileleft:
Hope this is useful
Thanks
Pogo

You can buy citric acid in pharmacies.

Over here in France though, it is on "the list".... it can be used in some illegal drug making processes ... so over here one can excpect the third degree as to what one wants it for. (I'll be sending hubbie for mine!)

I use the Hugh FW recipe but without the citric acid and store it in the freezer in small batches so that I can defrost it as required and keep it in the fridge.
