By all means discuss, I was worried about 'Evils' motivation when the word 'survivalist' appeared on the first line of the site.

Having as much information from as many sources as is possible, is to my way of thinking the only way to find the truth, and the truth in this world is getting harder to find.

Fair point, Red. If EvilSpartacus would like to rejoin the forum and explain his reasoning I for one am keen to understand it.

Sorry to jump in here, folks. John, he doesn't have to explain his "reasoning". It was someone else's article and he was merely reporting its existence. Stonehead pointed out that the source may not be totally reliable, and a couple of guys from the US came on and said that they hadn't noticed any such thing. Ok - fine - now we all know, and no-one needs to defend an attitude. This is a forum, mate, where things get discussed - sometimes a bit more heatedly than others, but that's all to the good. Give people a bit of slack, willya?

Well, guess what was on the national news last night

. Costco's CEO did not necessarily say that rationing was being instated, but that he was noticing people buying large quantities of staples. He did not want to cause a rush or panic though.
I went to Walmart yesterday to get some groceries (I know, evil Walmart) and noticed that the shelves were pretty low, rice was about gone and flour was almost $5.oo a bag. The supply was low and the price was high.
Some say we are finally going to pay the "actual" price of what food costs to produce. I can't say I disagree. Cheap oil spoiled us in many ways, even those of us who don't waste and hoard. I wish it would trickle down to schools and that the children were taught how to be more self-sufficient and more environmentally friendly.

Another interesting article on the subject:
DEADLY GREED
The Role of Speculators in the Global Food Crisis
http://www.spiegel.de/international/wor ... 87,00.html
Have only read half of it so far - must get back to work for now - but it seems that there's plenty of money to be made out of the crisis!

Just thought of something: For the past few years we've had tattie rationing! The local garden centre has early potatoes in the tunnel - but only a limited amount. So everybody is only allowed one bag at a time.
Very sensible. That way all their regular customers can get some...

John, I have to agree with MKG, you are out of order. it is not for you to say who stays or who is not welcome, nor to suggest they 'rejoin' and explain anything (he hasn't left as far as I know and has been a member for longer than you....) . We just don't act like that here.. this is a friendly place were everyone is entitled to an opinion. .
