[quote="Boots"]When I was younger, I remember my Grandma giving me a book...no idea what it was called... but the Prince wrote it himself
, so it was very special and very important...and I read that book over and over...

Would that book be The Old Man of Lochnagar??

Yep, I walked around there (Lochnagar) last year with some visitors... Very nice indeed. Actually, I think Charlie's watercolours aren't all that bad, for an amateur, that is...
Happy New Year to all you out there who've made it to 2006 already! I used to take the difference in time as an excuse to drink to it twice, when I still needed excuses like that...
There is an hour between Germany and Britain, so I celebrated twice. Tonight I shall, for the first time since I've come to Scotland, do something that's essential for a German New Year celebration: Watch "Dinner for One". Anybody know that? It's an ancient scetch that's shown on German television every New Year's eve for the past umpteen decades. One year I counted that it was on 8 times, from 4 in the afternoon in the kids' programme, to 1 the next morning... It's in English, and every German would know the catchphrases in it: "Same procedure as last year? Same procedure as every year!"
Strangely enough nobody in Britain knows it, but it's shown not only in Germany, but also in other European countries. Can't remember the two actors (Miss Sophie and her butler). A friend of mine sent me a DVD for Christmas, so the neighbours (where we are seeing in New Year) will have the "pleasure" of me begging to watch it tonight! It's only 11 minutes, so I'm sure they'll survive.

The Aus education system has really let me down. How can I be expected to visit France if I cannot even communicate a banana joke???
Unbel-ievable!
...I'm still thinking about that laughing emoticon...sorry, am a bit fixed on him, and am sure I will move on soon. But - do you think he might have been developed by a french man?

I thought, being green, he was a jealous smile. I'm getting jiggy with all this...just bear with me.
Well... There's not a chance I can tell you the rest of this in French, so I won't try... BUT...
As we all know, April 1st is that day we all traditionally play practical jokes on each other. But, as we also know, when noon comes, the jokes end.
Last April 1st, in a small town in France, BJ and Big Hoss (the 2 rookie policemen) were patrolling the downtown business area. They decided to stop into the local coffee shop for a coffee and a donut, as coppers do.
The time was 11:55 AM. Three minutes later, they got a call on their police radio from a Scottish radio dude, "33 in process, man in bank dressed as a banana." Well there was only 1 bank in town, in fact, it was just across from the coffee shop. And a 33 was an "armed robbery" BUT it was also 11:58 AM and BJ and Big Hoss decided the Scottish dispatcher was playing a joke on them.
So they continued on enjoying their coffee break... At 12:01 PM, they got a second call on their radio, "Repeat, Urgent, 33 in process, man in bank dressed as a banana." Realizing it was past noon, they gulped down their donuts and rushed across the street, BUT they arrived 30 seconds after the banana split.
So..

Yes, tis true...banana jokes are truly painful... no doubt about it.
Is there actually a good banana joke out there?
My french teacher taught me how to ask for directions (left, right) and to ask for bananas or pineapples, and I have always giggled at the thought that if I ever went to France I would probably just spend my whole time going round and round, being sent left and right, and eating pineapples and bananas...
Good thing I like bananas and pineapples...

There's a funny thing about banana jokes - it is an archetypal gag to have someone slip on a banana skin; we talk about people making a blunder as having slipped on one; children's TV programmes depend upon it; Charlie Chaplin made a whole career of slipping on them; everyone knows that you slip on banana skins.
But have you ever seen or heard of anyone actually doing it? Ever? Maybe in countries where banana plants are indigenous it is a real problem?

mmm. Well, I set about asking folks this question Muddy. (Yes, am being serious
)
Seems no-one has seen anyone ever slip on a banana peel, BUT a 14 year old said, "Well, if someone did, it wouldn't be funny would it???"
To which I responded... Of course it would! She gave me one of those Am I older than you or something looks and I suddenly felt very sorry for this poor Charlie Chaplin/Goodies/Mr Magoo deprived generation.
