....thank you, all you lovely people.

I'm going to really try and make some noise about it too - I feel so strongly that our children should have more support and it has to begin in schools!!

It's time for Brown to wake up and go Green!!!!

Cheers to all,

Is the petition still there? I've tried looking but cannot seem to find it. I've just qualified as a Secondary English teacher and I'm interested in assisting my new school to become an eco-school. I would love to see more environmental subject matter included in the National Curriculum, though I do slightly disagree with the statement that it has to begin in schools. It should begin at home IMO and then be further supported in schools. Schools and education can only do so much without reinforcement from home.

Hi there!

Thanks for your support, but it's finished now - it did well, but I haven't yet received a 'comment' from the office of No 10, (well, won't be 'himself' :geek: of course, one of his people!)...which reminds me, I should give them a poke!

The reason I feel so strongly about it being embedded in schools, right from the earliest possible opportunity in nursery, is that we can teach the parents from the children upwards...sneaky tactic, but it might just help break the apathy that sadly exists in some households.

It will also normalise sustainable living behaviour for the youngsters and that will give them a good footing for life.

Good to see you on here!

Thanks for the info, I'm sorry to have missed it! Please post when (if) you get a response back.

Your sneaky plan does sound like a good one. I guess I just feel a bit more helpless teaching at Secondary level where quite a lot of the children's opinions are set to a greater degree. They need far more convincing! If they had had a good rooting in it throughout nursery and primary I imagine they'd be far more apt to embrace a greener way of living.

Hi Lexie,

I will do - I believe they have to reply to every petition holder in due course.

I can understand your feelings about the children and I think the only way we can tackle it with this generation of youngsters is to keep banging on and also to try and get them involved with the Eco-schools awards.

All the best,
TS
