Cardboard boxes mulched/chipped up in the garden mulcher/chipper makes good reycled litter for chicken coups

A deep litter of Pine shavings is my recommendation, absorbant and de-oderising- smells nice. (Also has antiseptic properties)
Straw or hay should be avoided.
(Cedar, as allready mentioned, is toxic to chicks)

Holds too much moisture though.

I use Jo pack at the moment, it's hemp based.
It works very well.
I am interested in doing the deep bed system, but would need to add a skirting around the edge of the run to keep the bedding in!!
