I have recently cut sulphites out of my diet (well as much as is reasonable) as they used to give me quite serious wind problems... mind you I don't have IBS but I was just thinking out loud. Have you ever tried cutting them out?

I don't have a list but I know that they are found in
preseved fruit (not the organic kind)
some ready meals (which I never eat any ways)
diluting juices
some fizzy juices

and... you won't be happy to hear this but are naturally occuring in wine  however organic wine has much less than non-organic so your home-made wine shouldn't be too bad  (unless you add presevative)
hope that helps check out the wikipedia page

Edit to mention that some people have dangerous allergies to sulphites so it tends to be mentioned on the allergy advice of most food products

bit late I know.. but was reading through the posts today as i have no work on and the weather is for the ducks!

I also suffer with IBS.. this is a lot of the reason that we are now growing our own etc.. as the less processed foods i eat the better!

1, buscopan and colpermin are just the most fab thing ever!.. I get mine on script from the doc as i go through industiral quantities!
2, I find that stress is a killer along with onions, wine, chocolate, anything spicy and most processed foods.

Although I do find that brown suger dialuted in some warm water works really well.. although not really to my taste!
( tried this old granny method with my first sone who suffered with constant colic and this was the only this that helped)

I can remember my grandmother and mother making "cinder water" taking a red hot glowing coal from the fire with tongs and dropping it into a cup of water. This was then spooned into baby to cure colic and seemed to work.

i got some colpermin the other day and it worked quite well!

I can't eat pork or pig products, and my insides complain a bit if i eat red meat or game - i have trouble digesting them properly.
I also have to take medication if i'm travelling - for some reason, going on the train really sets it off!

I'll keep some brown sugar on standby and give it a go next time (which, hopefully, won't be for a few months!!).

I used gripe water for sophie, and use it myself for trapped wind.
peppermint tea works well too. I prefer mine cold.

I have to say, i've never found anything that releases trapped wind quite as well as gripe water. Even though it tastes foul!!

Chinese medicated oil. Always works when you rub in on your tummy. Nothing to ingest.

PM me if interested. I have a few small bottles spare. (My siblings bring me lots when they visit. Never leave home without it.)

Best,

LSP

We've got a few bottles at home - dad bought loads back when we went to China. I'll give that a go next time.
