collection is the most effective way, (if you are not willing to chuck poisons around your environment and food growing areas!) and it does make a difference eventually - particularly to confirned areas like the greenhouse.

himself has declared war on slugs ... myself stays indoors and makes appreciative noises

Try coarse salt around the pots, and crushed rock or oyster shell on your paths.

And of course you've mentioned beer-

So I guess thats all the help I can be

I've got some new peter pepper seeds today, i'm going to try to bring them up using the jar on the radiator method 9not that the radiator is on, but its a pretty warm place anyway). Hopefully, then they'll get big enough to go out later on when the threat of slug has finished.

They've eaten a whole pot of tomato seedlings too!
Luckily, out of the 25 seeds i had, 50 have germinted (no...i have no idea how either...).

I had a packet of basil seeds from Seeds of italy - i planted some in some pots at the entrance to the garden (I love the smell so much that i wanted it to waft over people as they entered the garden), and some in a hanging basket with some parsley - they've all come up too!

Pesto here!
