hmmm... I have never heard of the magpie thing, though we are pretty wary of them out here, because the buggers swoop relentlessly when they're nesting!
My thing has always been kookaburras... have been known to run out in my nightie weilding a broom and insisting that if they even consider opening their beaks they're in for it!!!!
A kookaburra laughing in your back yard heralds pregnancy, and while they might find that amusing, I do not!!!!
