This sounds live Nev's pot in pot cooler. Very useful for some things. Don't forget that humans survived for millions of years before fridges were invented and we didn't all die of food poisoning. I'm sure there's loads of stuff we keep in the fridge that we don't actually need to.

During the 2nd WW in the desert in North Africa, the Army used to put their water bags on the front of their vehicles and the water oozing through would evaporate and keep the water inside cool.

That clay fridge looks like an excellent design, especially if you live in a hot place. You might not want to keep dairy products in it but it would extend the life of fruit and veges well.
