I would imagine it would take alot of fibre glass to cover that, Do you have to have insurance in a boat?? I would like to know more about this boat ie how much did it cost and how much do they think it will cost to do up.?

Unfortunately, they are selling up to come back to the UK so I won't have any more stories for you.

I think the most worrying thing for my friends was the possibility that they might damage someone else's boat when manoevering in the marina without insurance. There are some seriously expensive boats out there. My friend's boat is a heavy wooden tub and could do some damage. Also, it is quite a big investment and if it sank he would lose the lot without insurance. Plus all the costs of recovering it etc if it did sink. All in I guess insurance is a good idea if you are sailing it a lot.

I am sorry it didnt turn out well for your friend, still at least he had a go, i am afraid i dont know any one after such a boat, I think about getting a large boat one day 30 odd foot, and mooring a mile off coast or so, and just coming in to dock at rough weather, a fantasy really, totally unworkable unless you could work from it , come to think of it with wireless internet these days , so long as you were set up properly you could do it, so back to the drawing board again, ask your friend if you dont mind how much a 30 ft average condition old fishing boat cost. I certainly wont have to go far to fish.

I'm afraid it's a case of how long is a piece of string. It really depends on age and condition. Boats that are already in morings in a good mariana command a premium as well.
