I BELIEVE OUR WIND TURBINE DESIGN IS WRONG TO USE.

Solar energy, wind turbines whatever it is then here is your place to talk about it.

-strange! - I can't find any reference to Samrey at all, I'm pretty sure they're not members of it!
I suggested the Micropower council because they appear to be keen on "innovative ideas", and have BWEA as a member :cooldude:
http://solarwind.org.uk - a small company in Sussex sourcing, supplying, and fitting alternative energy products.
Amateurs encouraged - very keen prices and friendly helpful service!

  Hi Martin,I'm sorry I looked at your website, not the Micropower website,
I'm going to send a e-mail to the Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy thanks to your help,I will let you and other know how I got on. John. J.R.P.

 :( Hi Martin and others, I got a reply from Alison Hill on behalf of BWEA saying that they could not help me,after me sending them a e-mail telling about my New design to catch the wind, but she did give to me names of others to try. I will let you know how I get on. John. J.R.P.

 Hi ALL, whilst still working on my wind turning device and waiting for replys I thought of another idea, which I believe I have the answer to generating lots of energy from a wind driven device, which every body must already have in their homes. It's a ELECTRIC FAN,which we only use in the summer mostly to keep us cool, which I would like to add too.
MAY I PUT MY IDEA FORWARD TO all those people who are experts and DIY people too, WHY cant we use a ready made designed shaped fan to generate electricity like a wind turbine. It's a sealed unit or it canbe made so it is,it can be put on a upright tube, and set at different heights,it can be set at different angles,it can be made to turn from side to side, and at different speeds when the blades are turning.
What I want to hear now is someone say,all you have to do is ? and yes it will generate electricity from the motor that turns the fan,and then we can all benefit from the wind in some way which is FREE for us to use when it blows. May we all live long and happy and use the air we breath for free too. John. J.R.P.

  Hi ALL again,I've just taken off a motor from our old sowing machine, it's a ( HELVETIA ) modle 40-455 va ac/dc 25-60c 200-250v Mot.Type 0100.
The reason I took it off was its got a spindle end that sticks out on both sides, which we did have a rubber belt going round to turn it with the help of a channle wheel design, any good for those of use who are trying to creat a energy supply on a small scale like my wind turbine design,as I only know how to rewire a plug, and connect up a battery or change a light bulb my self. If it will work it's alread got a 2 bolt fixing bracket which I'm sure I can use attached to it. COME ON SAY YES,then I can move on as I have a few proto types ready to try out on it. I've just got to work out the wireing on it as its got 3 - 2 wires comeing out of it,I think the brown case ones were for the light, the other 2 are gray cased wires are red and black inside. The only problem I can see with using it is it's a bit hard to turn by hand, against spinning freeely, but I'm sure we can solve that problem. John. J.R.P.

Hi John. To carry out some experiments with wind turbines it is often best to go with the tried and tested first. The simplest of small wind generators uses a 'sturmey archer' bycycle dynamo, called a dynohub. (front wheel type) See 'gotwind.org' and REUK.co.uk. (Also some new bycycle dynamos on ebay, the shimano hub type at about £16 plus £4 postage) Turbine blades can be made from large diameter plastic pipe, I built some onto a motor car cooling fan hub. These bycycle generators turn out about 6 to 12v or so AC. ok for small bulbs etc. to convert to DC you will need a bridge rectifier etc. Get a cheap multimeter to see what sort of power you can get from your various designs or your sewing machine motor. Try 'velacreations.com' for a more serious wind generator, this site includes a design (called a chispito or some such) that uses a treadmill/running machine motor that is seriously powerful, can be made for £50 if you have the talent. Keep trying.

 Hi Jondy thank you for all your info,I like the gotwind.org website,I'm going to contact them with some other ideas which they might like to try out and talk about my own wind catching idea at the same time.
The Sturmey Archer Dynohub is a great idea to use. I will hold back just in case someone else knows more websites that may show my design,in the meantime I will look at the other ones you told me about sometime tomorrow. May you and yours live long and happy. John. J.R.P.

 Hi All,think ROTORVENT or ROTO COWL to fit onto a chimney for a wind turbine design, their website is, www.fluesystems.com it's got me thinking. A small size one can reach speeds up to 15mph and a large size one can reach speeds up to 25mph,but it's still no the design I have made, even though it's on the same lines. John. J.R.P.

  Hi ALL,I was right about my new design idea, but has someone else already made it after me telling you, :( I don't know, mines a bit different but it works in the same way,but if they have it just goes to show you I was right, the designed three blade type are not the only ones for us all to use.
To see my type of design in action go to http://video.google.com./videoplay?doci ... 9706419266 as suggested on another website forum. John. J.R.P.

Gidday

Hey John, good onya mate for havin a go at this. But just a bit of advice. If you think you have a really good idea that has not been used before, get the thing patented pronto. Before you start explaining it on websites that millions of people can see. Once you have a patent then share it with as many people as you can in the hope that someone will come on board and help in the developement of it.

Secondly, the likes of electric fans and such, can only ever be used for experimental purposes as they could never develope enough energy to do any real good. But having said that, yes things like that are still worth playing wirth for your epeeriments so don't, please don't think I am trying to put you off.
Cheers
just a Rough Country Boy.

Your chimney cowl wind energy generator idea: status?

Post: # 105501Post stevend »

Hi John

Re your message on Saturday Dec 02, 2006, at the Self Sufficientish forum (and subsequent Saturday January 13th, 2007
link to your video clip):

"" Hi All,think ROTORVENT or ROTO COWL to fit onto a chimney for a wind

Did you ever develop this further? Status?

Best regards

Stevend

 Hi Stevend, and welcome, no is the answer, I've made a proto type, but that's as far as I've got because I have no money to take it any further. But I'm sure by now someone out there has put 2 and 2 together and come up with the same idea. The trouble is everyone wants to see the end result before they want to get involved. For example I have designed a city that's 5 miles wide and round at the base, and 1 mile high, which has it's own sola system and wind generating system and food growing system and all the other things built in to it to make it fully selfsufficientish, but once again that's another idea which I've made a small proto type of but I have no money to take it any further. Which is a shame, but atleast I've made my proto types to show others.
Thank you for showing your interest anyway.
May you and yours and what you grow live long and happy. John.J.R.P.
