having sported facial fungus for 40 years, the thought of being moustacheless is fairly petrifying, and I reckon Nev's comes under the heading of "threatened wildlife habitat", and as such should be preserved at all costs!
ps, some aspects of contemporary culture do pass me by out here in the sticks - metrosexual? - someone who "does it" on the Paris underground? :geek:

The term has been around since about 1994 - it was coined by a writer working for the Independent but has now gone global. A metrosexual is an urban male of any sexual orientation who spends an inordinate amount of time and money on their appearance, lifestyle and image. Think David Beckham and Brad Pitt.

It's much talked about in the Oz media, as to whether the masculine Aussie bloke is being relaced by the more androgynous metrosexual.

Phew! If only it was as simple as someone who does it on the Paris underground.

Maaaate!

The only wax that gets near me is the stuff in candles. I'm far too independant (read grotty) to make it as a metrosexual. I was introduced to the term by my elder daughter who keeps up with the new lingo.

Thanks for all your comments, when i have Andy and Dave's (and anybody else as yet uncommitted) I will approach the higher authority with the result.

I voted for you to get rid...

I wonder whether all the votes for keep it... were from the blokes of the forum :)

You do look distinguished with it though... and I do take the points that others have made about shaving being a waste of time and not good for the skin etc...

Nev... before you decide to shave it... go down to Crazy Clarks and get a can of that fluro green hair spray!!

My mate and I returned to Melbourne a few years back, and his family kept telling him he looked old as he had a long wizards beard at the time. He got a tad tired of the comments, so bought this lary hairspray and asked me to help him get ready for dinner... We arrived at the restaurant and they were all speechless. His nephew broke the long silence with a high five and something like, "Yeah! How cool is that, Uncle!?!"

The "old girls" never made a "you look old" comment again!

Oh, and another thought...You could always compromise and just shave your head. Beard and bald head always looks good.

Well, the thing that everyone said to me when my son (age 6) cut my daughter's hair (age 3) was "Oh, don't worry - it will grow back"

I vote for a shave, coz you can always grow it back (although the itching will drive you (wom)batty).

I think you should do a sponsored SSish-fund raising shave! I have friends in Canada who lost their son to leukaemia and every year they host a sponsored head-shave (from when he was undergoing treatment & all his hair fell out).

Think of it as an opportunity - your karma will thank you

You should definitely keep it, beards not only look great but are extremely sexy and feel much nicer rubbing against your check than stubble and the asscioated stubble rash!

I'm definitely a beard lover, my OH is told he *can't* shave his!

Nev, it has to go mate. I really don't go for beards and have threatened all sorts of unmentionable things if Mr Shiney grows anything like a beard or tash!! I will grow my armpits and legs to huge lengths as well, if he does.

Luckily, he spent a few years in the forces where they had to shave everyday or else. It's second nature for him now.

If you don't like it, then it can grow back. I bet Mrs Nev will love to see all of your face again.

Go on, you know you want to!

I suppose somebody with the appropriate software and editing skills could take Wombat's avatar and doctor it so that we could all make a more informed decision?

personally, from the Freudian point of view, I'd view this as clear symbolic emasculation...........
