cat litter in compost?

Whenever I move house I take the used cat litter and sprinkle it around the edges of the garden. Not directly on food plants but onto the soil. It helps the cats to find their way around as it has their scent so it helps them to settle into their new territory and warns other cats of the new occupants. It also defines what areas are OK for them to use as a toilet (they tend to go in the same places).

I guess if you have young children that might not be such a good idea but perhaps you could put it in places where the children aren't likely to be able to reach.
