My view is that I have no issue with the technology, the issue is with specific applications. I oppose glyphosate resistance ("roundup ready") because it leads to increased herbicide applications, with the inevitable knock-on effects on biodiversity. On the other hand, I support Bt crops, because the evidence is that their use results in less spraying of pesticides, and thus improved biodiversity.
We already have large-scale deployment of GM crops, and we have had for some time. The sky has not fallen, but then neither have we seen the promised elimination of hunger...
