[quote="Odsox"]Thanks for that. I haven't grown Latah as I really prefer indeterminate cordon varieties, bush ones tend to annoy me by wanting horizontal space when there is plenty of vertical space available. What does it taste like compared to the Gardener's Delight ?

Bush tomatoes are a bit like teenagers, they just want to flop about all over the place. I grow them at the back of the bed as there is not much headroom and they can flop there, in spite of all my efforts to make them stand up a bit, will have to get my partner to weld me up some kind of frame to keep them in order. What do Latah taste like, well, they are more acid than the gardeners delight, I grow the Irish ones which are supposedly sweeter, but at the same time they have a sweetness to them, we have been very impressed with the flavour. If you like I could send you a few to taste, there are still some left.

Thank you, that's very kind of you, but if you say they are more acid than GD then I think I will grow some next year anyway. I had sort of decided to when you told me how early they ripen, my winter toms are already 3 inches tall so they will probably be getting past it by early May and Latah should take over from them.

How's the weather been today up your end of the country, it's been a real winter's day down here, makes me look forward to the summer.

Have had really good crops from all my heritage tomatoes, the only one who didn't do very well was the Amish paste which sulked for quite a while after planting out and didn't cheer up much before producing some rather disappointing crops, but that may be my fault. The best one was my Legend Bush (!!??), it has cropped its heart out and although it sprawled around a bit and was difficult to prop up, it gave loads of fruit and really huge and tasty too. I am saving seed now, do we do seed swaps or anything on ish???

Yes Digger, scroll down the board index for 'swap shop'

I have had a good crop of Amish paste this year and reasonable crops from others including my favourite ' Brandy Wine' although I'd say everything is a good two weeks late.

Silly question perhaps but do peeps take off leaves at the bottom of the plant that are shading ripening trusses?

Yep. especially as the season goes on(though I know not everyone agrees) You'll know this, but someone lurking might not, obviously leave them enough to breath.

Now harvesting Chocolate Cherokee - dark purple brown skin and delish - soooo sweeet!
