When I made honey soap, I added it at trace, and incorporated thoroughly - worked fine for me.
I've just rendered some pig fat from our half pig, so am going to try that for soap. Might be a bit soft, but will give it a try.

Animal fat actually makes very nice soap. I've been told it's because it's the closest thing to what we're made of anyway, which is a bit gross to think about. Most of the soap you buy in shops is made of beef dripping - when it says "sodium tallowate" on the ingredients, that's what it means.
