I it safe to pick Stinging Nettles from my local Park?

I was out yesterday morning getting a couple of bin bags full but having said that they were only for compost and the chickens.

I'd give it a go as the use of pesticides etc are likely to be strickly controlled in a public environment.
If you are in any doubt then find one of the gardeners and ask if they are treating them and can you pick some if they are not. I'm sure they will welcome your help in maintaining their park, lol.

Does anyone's chickens eat nettles? :shock: I have them growing in the chicken runs and they don't ever touch them. :?

You need to cut them down and let them wilt for about 30 minutes then the sting goes out of them and they are chicken food alla carte.. well for my greedy pigs they are.

Ahhhhh thing is if I do cut them down/pinch out the tops they are food for my hungry compost bins! :mrgreen:

It depends where the water comes from. If it sits in a tank in your loft, that can be unhealthy to ingest. However, some houses (like mine) don't use a water tank and run the bathroom taps straight off the mains; I think that is as good as the water from the kitchen sink (although, to be honest, I tend to do my food prep in the kitchen - better working surfaces).
