Water rates seem to be so random...our son who lives in a 1 bed flat has just paid a bill of £114 for 6mths Still has the waste one to come (about the same amount) whereas 2 of us in a three bed house on a water meter pay £30 for the same period (waste is about £50). He cannot have a meter as its a council flat! That link from stonehead looks well worth following up! Now I wonder why the water companies dont tell us about these things?????

I've just checked ours again and I was completely wrong. £80 for a year. I don't even know how that can be, but, yes yours is way too much!

Hi, just a quick update, it doesn't look good, even the CAB are saying there's not all that much you can do if they can't fit a meter, but mayme we'll be lucky and we can. You can't switch form you r supplier, you can't be disconected, they can reassess the bill but we did a calculation and it'll likely only knock off a fiver a month. These guys have people by the goolies! We'll apply for one of those grants and we'll just have to keep a lookout for another/better jobs. If the worst comes to the worst I'll be looking for somewhere else to live that can have a meter or is cheaper, after what happened earlier on in the year I think I'm done with this place anyway. Thanks guys!

Nomada, you have my sympathy,I really think it's a rip off,one thing occurs to me though, having read through your original post,if you're not being metered, have BLOODY HUGE baths,2 or 3 times a day,cos it aint gonna make no difference.(Is it worth a word with the HA who run your place, every one else must be in the same crap.(maybe then they'd put in meters.) Best WIshes, anyhow.

I'm sorry you are paying so much for a small flat - doesn't make sense. :( I guess it is something to think about and ask about when renting property - mind you I never had to pay for the water when I rented in England as that was always covered by the landlord - we paid gas and leccy. :dontknow:

Hi, forgot to say we had the water meter fitted! The first bill has just arrived and we've saved almost £32 on our monthly water bill! So there you go! We were totally ripped off!
