Unfortunately some GPs seem to have missed that message! My niece is only three but is put on antibiotics every winter at least twice. Sometimes my SIL even tells me niece is on ABs for a viral infection!!!! She doesn't seem to get that ABs are not going to help! Rant over!!
Hopefully the combination of changes will sort the wee guy out! Simple changes can be so much more effective than a load of pills.

There are lots of good suggestions there and it sounds as though they are all starting to make a difference.
My only suggestion is when at the height of stingyiness (?) should it return, a good way to ease the pain of weeing is to wee into a cold damp cloth held against the area, helps to numb the pain a bit.

poor little man.
but doesn't your GP know to CHECK FIRST to be SURE its a bacterial infection and also, if given AB's so often, he will become resistent to them.
has his urine been checked on a regular base?
just some things that crossed my mind.
sounds like you are doing what you can already, and good to read that you made at least SOME progress.
less sugar/ yeast is always good, as is more yogurt.
I won't give any medical advice here, but I definitely would get him to an urologist if this contintues or a specialist for children if you have not yet been there.
good luck and hope he heals soon :)

I had problems with UTI (got the same as your son, kidney-infection) and I don't want to eat antibiotics every other month.
But cranberry juice helps suuuper! You only need two things to avoid UTI:
1. Keep your bum warm (never sit on cold benches!)
2. As soon as it starts hurting, drink 2dl of cranberry juice a day until it stops.
Cranberry is actually sold commercially as pills for this very purpose...

Ah, that's horrid for the poor little chap. Now I'm not sure if all of these are appropriate for 4-year old, but they work for me. To alleviate discomfort apply a hot water bottle to his urinary area - it does help. Remedies I have found good are - eating berries cranberry, blackberry and blueberries, which may be easier than him drinking loads of it - I understand they are out of season, but try frozen ones. Grapefruit extract and baking soda mixed in water have also worked for me. Although having said that too much acid will irritate. I hope he gets better soon.
