 flippin eck, its small world.... i lived on pemberton road too!! right by the canal - we had a pair of swans for neighbours. The landlord was a total ...ahem (not sure about swearing rules on here!!)... not very nice, anyway. evicted me when i was pregnant because i complained he was letting himself into the flat uninvited. oh please, may i never have to rent from dodgy landlords ever again...
Blimey, it IS a small world, isn't it? Funnily enough, we also complained about OUR landlord letting himself in to our rooms. Mind you, they reckon he owned half the street, so I wonder if it was the same one.....
I lived right at the bottom, the first house on the right as you looked up the hill, right behind where the Turkish bakery got deliveries at 3am...4am...5am....6am.....you get the picture?! God, it was a hell-hole.

gotta be the same landlord! he did own several properties and mainly rented to foreign students (they didn't know the law). its going back to 93/94 so its hard to recall now senility is setting in... i think he was european (german?), short and balding...can't for the life of me remember his name. we exchanged solicitors letters when i left because i refused to pay the last months rent as he was renowned for not giving back deposits! i got away with it because i suggested his solicitor might like to get him up to speed on the law regarding entering properties without consent. did you get your's back?

Nope. I tried to get him through Small Claims, but he 'didn't exist'. Hmmmm. IIRC, my landlord was Polish, and this would have been around 1999. We didn't often see him, apart from when he was letting himself into our rooms, when it was rent time he would send a 'neighbour' round to collect it.
