The rents have gone up quite a way our way too.. Ours has literally doubled... to £10 a year for half a plot, which is still big enough for my 16 hens and Howard the cock. I feel much better about the price after seeing what some of you are having to pay. It still seems like quite a hike even though we have plenty.

We are lucky that I have been able to build my own poly tunnnel and raised beds at home too, otherwise we simply wouldn't get enough from it.

Has anybody here seen hughs landshare Sheme? http://www.landshare.net/

or for the rebelious among you... http://www.guerrillagardening.org/

I havent tried this but looking up and down my street I can see a number of properties with older ladies and gents who simply don't have the mobility to get out there as they probably did twenty years ago, causing a number of privets to be ripped up...(grrr) maybe by flirting and with the promise of keeping everything trim you could adopt an older persons garden. Make a new friend and help somebodies mum enjoy the garden again...

I am sure that most of the older ladies and gents I have met would love the idea of a fit strong young 'un or two putting the garden to use, especially if they get a share of the spoils..

I like the idea anyway...
