no its not supposed to be lambMillymollymandy wrote:Oooh you'll get all the Cornish up in arms saying that!I think it depends where you buy your Cornish pasties from (it's supposed to be lamb) and if you buy those revolting supermarket ones then I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole either!

Beef, potato, turnip/swede and onion is the traditional recipe.
Often now made with lamb (but then it should be just a pasty, not a Cornish pasty).
I've searched and searched for pig's head pasty, but I'm getting nowhere.

parochial ? me?
The earliest recorded mention of a pasty was... Devonshire
To be fair though - I believe a pasty was, in days gone by, pretty much last nights stew wrapped up in a pastry container for travelling, and could be made of anything.
But todays traditional pasties are beef onion and swede yum.

Hi, I've had a word with hubby & if they're still available he'd be delighted to take one or all of them depending on whether you have a couple of other people interested (he's scouring Hugh FW's meat book as we speak!)
Are you able to store them until Saturday?
My email address is jomuscroft@hotmail.com
Many thanks

It was one of the first things I made in cookery at school though I can't remember what meat we used!
Saw them being made on the telly not so long ago and 'they' said it was traditionally lamb that was used.
Maybe different parts of Cornwall/Devon use diff. meats? Personally I'd prefer beef anyway. In any case home made (even mine from school
) is worlds apart from those mass produced bought ones.
