I was going to mention that. A few years I got my name on the back page of one of the newspapers of the computing press where they'd been discussing microwaves and I'd written in to suggesting going one further and using tesla coils. The link on the page doesn't work any more but try Googling for CD and "tesla coil" and you'll probably find some pictures.

So, perhaps we can still allow:

I rather repeating on my last entry, but its an idea that I might actually use. Mind you as I live in rented accomodation I guess that I will have to nail up some big boards and attach them to that to keep the walls intact.

I was thinking of doing something similar last year to give more light to my raised bed (at the shady end of a north facing garden) although it actually ended up doing pretty well without it.

Anyway:

23: Net curtain weights... we've got some old CDs sewn into the bottom of the net curtains in our front room to stop them blowing around so much but they also manage to look quite ornamental.

When I mentioned this to friends in the pub recently they thought I was kidding and laughed at me. Dunno why.

Fix a row or two behind your radiators to reflect the heat back in.

Ok - I know this is a really old thread but I still have a couple.

I put some out as bird scarers last year. The weather removed the silver stuff and the label and now I have a whole bunch of clear plastic discs. We could almost start a new thread on what to do with those. Little round windows for dolls' houses perhaps?

Somebody suggested cutting them up - they can be cut into little fan shapes and painted with dregs of nail varnish to make quite normal looking christmas decorations or decorations for greetings cards. Some cut better than others.

Put them under strawberries. Not only do they keep them off the mud but they reflect the light back up to the strawberry so ripening the underside as well.

You can now buy shredders that will shred CD's. Then you could use them as a decorative mulch on top of plant pots or as drainage in the bottom. I bet they are sharp tho'.

As coasters they are great under washing up liquid bottles or olive oil bottles to catch the drips. They can be put in the dishwasher to clean.
