I don't bother soaking any pulses - my pressure cooker does the trick no matter how old they are - no salt added during cooking.
I usually do a bagful at a time, then portion and freeze what I'm not using immediately. They're handy when times a bit tight.

Home made hummus with the chickpeas, yummy. Cook 500g chickpeas until they are pretty soft, then puree in a blender and mix with 2 tbsp olive oil, a clove or two of garlic, juice of half a lemon (I use a whole lemon as I like it very lemony) and a pinch of salt. lovely with home made bread! If you like a touch of spice adding 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper or chilli flakes or even chopped fresh chilli, whatever you have in, gives it a nice kick. If you're not into hot spice, 1/2 tsp cumin powder or crushed cumin seeds is also an interesting variation.
