Re: What are we all having for dinner?
We had fish pie tonight - just could not face any more meat, we seem to have eaten more meat than usual over Christmas. I impressed myself by cooking the potatoes in a pan with a steamer basket containing the veg and the fish on top of that (I used to bake the fish in the oven). Wonder if I could have made the white sauce in a double boiler on top of the steamer....darn it, never thought of that!

Turkey stew tonight - froze the carcass. It's amazing how many meals you can get out of one 4Kg turkey

We were supposed to have beef stew, but my daughter was a bit under the weather and wanted tomato soup. She wanted the soup that comes in a tin with the name everyone knows, but I made it instead - and she said it was exactly the same!

Did the baked leek risotto which Shirley posted on here somewhere in a leek thread I think. However be warned it takes about 2 1/4 hours from start to finish!!! Nice though!

We don't eat tinned soup but we ALWAYS have a tin of the famous soup just in case we are ill. In fact we usually have a regular sized tin and a large one in case we both come down with something! My OH hates tall omato soup except this one.....
Dinner here tonight is a casserole made with quorn, onions, broccoli, cauliflower and sweetcorn. Hope it's nice.

It's really strange isn't it!SusieGee wrote:What is it about that particular brand of tinned tomato soup that makes you crave it and nothing else when you are poorly. We NEVER have tinned soup but what did I send hubby out for last week when I had flu![]()
I blame my mother, I think it's what she fed us when were poorly as children.

Anyway - we had the beef stew tonight for tea. I'm really rather glad it wasn't eaten last night as I've spent the day at the hospital with my Dad

Re: What are we all having for dinner?
We had our left over of bacon and liver casserole with some mushrooms in the stew and some boiled potatoes to go with it. It was just great!

Re: What are we all having for dinner?
I had a piece of toast and I'm sooo hungry now, I might go and make cous cous...
Tomorrow might be sausage and bean casserole.

Finest Range ravioli (posh cheese and rocket) we picked up on the reduced shelf of the local SuperHellHole for 10p (reduced from £2.50) on Tuesday and chucked in the freezer.
Tomorrow is Arbroath Smokies with bubble and squeak - yum! I love Friday 'fish day', and I'm not even Catholic. But the fish van came round today and I couldn't resist!

I took my dog to play frisbee. She was useless. I think I need a flatter dog.

Had tortillas wrapped around a bean & tomato filling. I felt wild & extravagant and fried off some chorizo with the onions & peppers
There's just masses left.
So that's lunch then

We ALWAYS have 'fish friday',(1 lapsed catholic,1 ageing confused insurrectionist and 3 young would- be jeddais) dont know why.Needless to say,my lot cant do normal fish pie stuff,so it's usually a mixture of mussels and calamari ! (surprisingly cheaper than a lot of fish).

Re: What are we all having for dinner?
No catholics in my family but we used to have fish from the chippy on a Friday too, what is the religious meaning of this?
I thought it was just an old tradition like a roast on Sunday and Monday being washing day!
