Vegetables for allotments -idea to get more sites nationwide

Aren't we asking for Plots for Crops, or even Allotments for Vegetables, rather than the other way round? We've got, or rather will be, the Crops, what we're campaigning for is the Plots in which to plant them/ ourselves...

Drat, I've just noticed all the 'we' references I typed, guess that means I'm onboard too.

What about contacting Transition Town steering groups where you have one locally? Growing local food is on their list of things necessary to move away from a society based on using fossil fuels. I reckon most groups would love an eye-catching event like this.

I think we are the vegetables/crops and we were for allotments/plots, like Fathers 4 Justice are fathers who want justice, as per Andy's original suggestion.

And, yes, Transition Towns might be interested. I'm happy to ask the two initiatives near me once I know what we're asking them to do.

Crops 4 Plots is, without any shadow of a doubt, the wrong way round. You ain't asking for the crops. If anything, then, Plots4Crops. On the other hand, that sounds a corny as Hell. Ah - what do I know?

I know it seems that we are getting hung up on the name rather than yje issue but, to me anyway, both of those names miss the point.

We are trying to get MORE plots. Allotments for vegetables seems to imply that we are protesting other things happening to or growing on allotments and crops for plots implies some sort of farming. I appreciate the 2nd one is punchier though.

What about reusing the old "Digging for Victory" which everyone associates with growing food. It shows fighting spirit, determination and growth.

Or "Allotments for your Area", boring but sums it up.

Or "Health not Housing" (ooh political!). Could have an under slogan saying green spaces for growing or something.

Or "Growing Green in your Area"

Or "Outside spaces to feed our faces" - ooh this is the best one yet!

Ok, my ideas aren't great but there are loads of people on here that are good at this sort of thing. I'm sure someone can come up with a really catchy slogan.

Apparently it's National Allotments Week in August - 11th-17th. We could tie in with that maybe?

Dave thinks a different name might work better and suggested CROPS FOR PLOTS. I think he is right.

I was thinking of other publicity stunts you could try too, such as sitting in public parks dressed as vegetable having a tea party fully equiped with tea set and bloke dressed a butler, tea set, chairs and even violin music. Could be amusing.

Oh yes, please! There is an orchestra somewhere in the world that makes musical instruments out of vegetables - must google that and find out more! Could be a lot of fun!!!

Whatever we call it, it's a fab idea & I do want to be involved.

There's a story on our local paper's website today about the rise in sales of veg seeds & how many allotment sites are full with waiting lists. I reckon it's a very timely campaign.

Some time in August I think is a very good idea not only to tie in with allotments week but also that is the slack time for jorno's no news. mind you I bet some huge event will happen now.
