pruning quinces

Post: # 83400Post Ali B »

I have absolutely no clue about pruning so need some advice please...
I have 2 teeny tiny quince plants. Both of them consist of about 3 long (about 30-35cm) twigs growing from a very short central 'trunk' (haha). I am guessing I need to prune them a bit to make sure I don't end up with crazy long branches. Where should I cut, when & how?? Should I have done it in autumn or can I do it now?

Thanks so much.

Hi - I don't think anyone else knows by the looks of things! I suggest you have a Google for some advice and pruning techniques.

Acording to my RHS pruning book, quinces need pruning unless you want to end up with a dense thicket that needs constant thining (Oh, like mine then) Yes, those twiggy stems coming from the central stem need cutting back to just above a healthy bud.
Can have a go at scanning the page if you would like - pm me your email.
