Evening All
Howdy all,
A brief intro from me seems to be the order of the day :)
Hmm where to start?
Well I live up on the South Downs in a tumbledown old cottage with my lass (Bushbaby)
What am I into Self Suffiency wise? Well a fairly eclectic mix I guess
Soap Making
Candle Making
Home made sweets and confectionary
Beer, wines, ciders and meads
Home baking (including milling grain etc,)
Bushcraft and general outdoor fun
Leatherwork
I make my own vinegar and use it it chutneys and pickles
Leather work
I load my own ammunition (keen shooter)
I've fiddled a little with solar power but aim to do more
I design craftsman made axes and knives now and again
Foraging and Wild Food
Wildlife and Nature Photography
And many more...
This years "to learn" list includes cheese making and I hope to look into bee keeping soon. Our plan is to finally turn in the normal rat race in about 18 months time. I'm a fervent advocate of self reliance and capability. Not wildly "Green" in a political or campaigning sense - for me its more about independence and self reliance since I rather feel that an economy based on oil will change - whether we want it to or not - and how we burn the last few barrels won't change that much
Anyway enough about me - howdy all - I look forward to meeting you all

I have an illustrated tutorial on how to make vinegar from garden produce I'd be happy to post up if I can figure out whereQuakerBear wrote:Hello there. Any tips on how to make vinegar good enough for preserving would be invaluble.
It even has a bit on how to make an acid titration kit from red cabbage :)
Thanks for the warm welcome all

Re: Evening All
Hi all,
Just a brief note to say "hi" since I ahven't been here for a long while. Mainly because we bought a small place in Lincolnshire, gave up full time work, restored the cottage from a near ruin, put in the wood burning stoves, drained the paddock, put in two greenhouses, cut ten ton of firewood, established raised beds, a small orchard, re-build the well head, put in a new septic tank, re-roofed the barn, installed a calor system, replaced the kitchen and bathroom, set up our own company and a lot more besides :)
Still - we are living the dream now

Re: Evening All
hi there!
you have been busy! i love your house, very quaint
we're still in the proses of building ours. just completed the new roof, now onto the interior. its such a mess just now, everything needed completely gutted, the rooms are all full of rubble at the moment. my husband, his dad and the neighbour have been doing most of the work with 1 builder who rarely shows up just to check they're doing it right. my OH has just told the builder to not come back, now that the roof is done we dont need him any more. my OH is running about like a headless chicken trying to organise everything and go back and forward to our land by bike ( 4km away )to water everything. its chaotic just now !

Hi there and welcome
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!
