Sunning myself in Australia!

Post: # 6731Post Melberry »

Hi everyone
I live in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia with my husband and baby daughter. We have nearly an acre of land and are currently busy building vegie patches so we can become self-sufficient in fruit and veg as much as we can. It is a lovely sunny 20 degrees outside -perfect for gardening!
This site looks fantastic! I have hours of searching ahead of me if Isabella will only let me!

Hi Suzanne and welcome to the site. Good to see another Aussie - there are quite a few around already. I think it's fun to discuss things with people living in other countries.

Good luck with the veg growing and maybe you can introduce your daughter to the pleasures, perhaps when she is a little bit older!

Hi and welcome Melberry

I too live in Australia, in Port Macquarie NSW.

And yes the weather is warming up nicely ... everything is starting to take off really quickly;)

Melberry what are you planting?

Luckily our land has been established (the house is 3 yrs old) and so a lot of the hard work like retaining is all done! They also planted over a dozen fruit trees so they are well on their way to fruiting. They haven't been looked after very well so I've just given them a dose of Rapid Raiser. They look very pretty at the moment with their blossom. I have 2 pink lady apples, 2 fuji apples, cherry, plum, nectarine, peach, walnut, almond, orange, mandarin, lemonade, lemon and 2 olive trees. I have also just planted an apricot and pomegranite.
In the vegie garden, I have millions of self seeded lettuce! Also red onions, spring onions, beetroot, spinach, silverbeet, parsley, celery, carrots, radishes, peas and beans. I have also got a lot of seeds planted in my little greenhouse which I will plant out in a few weeks. And I have stacks of seed potatoes ready to go in too!
Today my daughter had a big sleep and allowed me and hubby to get out in the garden and weed, weed and weed! The rains and sunny weather have meant a lot of weed and lawn growth. It's looking fantastic now!

Oooh I'm so envious of your citrus trees! Sounds like you'll be eating well from that little lot.
