Charity choice

Post: # 69570Post Martin »

I'm looking for a charity - a REAL one..........Having collected throught the summer for a major charity (which will remain nameless), I was horrified to find that they have a chunk of trendy and doubtless power-guzzling office block in London (doubtless at vast expense), and appear to give light paid work for a bunch of hooray Henriettas.
Further enquiries show that 23% of what they raise goes on "expenses"........
Am I being perfectionist, or shouldn't a REAL charity be entirely voluntary, with ALL the funds raised going to the needy? :?
Any suggestions for a good charity for next year's collections? :dave:

Have a look at http://www.guidestar.org.uk/

If you use the search facility, it gives you a wide variety of options to find the charity/charities of your choice.

Aw, that's a shame Martin.

Good luck with a real charity.

Personally, i can recommend BLISS - they do work for premature babies and birth problems. Being a premature baby myself, i am forever in their debt.

Or, how about a local hospice, or hospital - buy an incubator or something? Then you know exactly where the money's going and what they're going to get out of it.

Childline or GOSH for me, both very worthy causes...

BUT on a personal note, if i make enough money at any point i will be going to my local WHCM councelling place and giving them £892.50. that is the LOSS which they made while they put me back together after a breakdown topped off with PND. they charged me £3 a week, making a £42 loss per week. i had 17 sessions, but they also managed to accomodate my hubby's working pattern (to cover childcare) so I only had sessions 3 weeks out of every 4.
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very
ve-he-he-he-heryyyyyyy soooooooooooon!!!!
