Ourselves and our friends have been going on a similar path in life, and all of us have gradually started to pay more attention to the environment and our place within it. Whilst babbling on about the environment to Rowan, recently, he mentioned you both and said I should check out the site. I'm glad I did. Feel quite at home.

I think that does seem to be a welcome trend towards people caring for the environment and supporting themselves, rather than relying on supermarkets and intensive farming. That is pretty much why the site was set up, would be nice to own a small holding and river cottage, downsizer.net and acountrylife.com all cater for that sort of person. There did not seem to be much out there for the everyday person who has a garden at best and wants to support themselves, so we try to be that site.

Well I am glad that you like the site and happy that you feel at home on here.

We're just starting out - pretty basic really, composting, planted a couple of fruit trees in our "driveway", reusing and fixing things that get broken etc. so apologies in advance for future dumb questions :-)

Im trying to recycle things but they havent designed recycling round the average sized kitchen. We need something that we can put stuff in cos at the moment the place is covered in piles of stuff to goto different places! I need a 3 way bin!

I have a tiny kitchen so I have a cupboard in my kitchen that I keep all my recycling in. With Plastic bottles and cans make sure you crush them to save space. I had a mate that had three large plastic boxes in his porch in which he would keep all of his stuff for recycling, does not have to stay in the kitchen mate if you want to save a bit of room.

Hello rhyddid welcome to the site, I am glad you like it here. I hope that I can keep you interested with the new stuff that goes up.

I do tend to post every now and again on both the river cottage and the downsizer message boards and jema posts a bit on here. This site and the downsizer lot tend to help each other out a bit, we have similar ethics so it would be daft not to really.
