*sigh* there's always one .. and today its Martin
whereas in fact.. we are looking at these lambs - about 8 months old.. and imagining the dotted lines drawn on them like you see in the cook books.
I have been searching out breds of sheep - what I wanted was ones guarranteed to have easy births, be great mums, no thoughts of escape, really easy to look after, great eating - dont want much huh.
but you do have to like the look of any animal you keep - I think, or you are off to a bad start....
Serious we want to get some sheep to eat the grass in our newly aquired fields while we consider what to do next, and then put them to the ram this sort of time next year with a view to raising our own lamb to eat.

I'd happily have ryelands again .... they look great - good fleece, good eating, great character, and they made good mothers - I was at the lambing of our two a couple of years ago and they did really well with no difficulties at all - one had triplets, the other twins (although one was born dead because of twin to twin syndrome where one just didn't grow enough)
We haven't got room for sheep here now - we've already got ducks, chooks, geese and goats.
Ina is very knowledgeable about sheep so hopefully she'll be able to get online for long enough to post.
