What is up with big companies?

Post: # 41974Post Martin »

I've spent a lot of time over the last few days doing some costings for a job -
and have at times been reduced to a gibbering wreck by the ineptitude of so many big companies - firstly you get the "corporate" website, designed to confuse and frustrate - many don't even list contact 'phone numbers! Then if you are lucky enought to find a number, you call it, and get the "press 8" nonsense, then eventually you get a 12 year old girlie on the line - you concisely describe your needs (including the fact that this is business they presumably want, worth lots of money!), and you get a pathetic "oh there's nobody in at the moment, can I get them to call back" :?
The exception that proved the rule was a Dutch company - clued up receptionist, with impeccable English - straight through to sales manager, he's doing some complete costings for me, which he's promised to email me today! - why on earth can't English companies take a leaf out of their book?
(I spent a whole week bombarding one English "big name" with requests for similar information both by email and telephone, eventually, I gave up!) :?

wow! - we get so used to crap service, that an awake company is like a breath of fresh air! Said Dutch company has just emailed me detailed spreadsheets on every aspect of their product, with very accurate costings included applicable to our job! - took them 4 hours to do something that most English companies would take a couple of months over!
We're so impressed, we'll probably be dealing with them a lot in future!
