Hi
Im involved with the Whithawk Community food project in Brighton which was revived five years ago by my partner Ben and a couple of other fabulous idealists Adam, Jake and Simon. The project is an acre in size and is situated in the middle of Brighton, it over looks the sea and the town, and is a five second walk from the downs. It's just fantastic.
We grow just about anything and everthing possible. Individually we all have our own allotments I keep bees and Ben keeps chickens. We grow most of our veg including some more exotic varieties like sweet potatoes and chick peas on occasion. We try and be as self sufficient as possible. I would love a goat, I have had a cheese press for three years but alas no goat as yet. Im a bit worried about it escaping and eating everyones produce. Anyway must go got to gather some elderflowers....happy wine making everyone.
great site, best wishes
Micky

Hello Micky/honeypot
sounds like a fantastic project to be involved in, does it take much work to manage it? Do you have to pay for the land? I am wondering how hard/easy it would be to have a similar porject elsewhere as many people who find it difficult to get allotments or don't have gardens could benefit.
Welcome to the site, hope you enjoy your wine

G'Day mickey,
It sounds wonderful!
I must admit that I have toyed with trying to get a community garden going - maybe it is easier to re-vivify a dead one than start from scratch. There used to be one in out suburb, but I don't know where and it closed years ago due to unknown reasons.
