101 white lies you tell your children or were told???

101 Uses For is popular and let's hope it stays that way. Our second book is presently called 101 tips for self sufficiency; we will certainly dip into this section for ideas. So post away and let's try and get at least one thread up to 101.

eeek, thats quite scary!!

Do your nails do the same thing if you eat them too? They're made of the same stuff. or do you have to swalow the hair roots for them to attach to your insides and grow?

I thought stomach acid was supposed to break down everything (i remember my biology teacher teling us that a syringefull would burn through he 4" thick wooden desks  )..

You learn something new every day...

There are quite a few things you can't digest, and a piece of my poppy seed cake will prove it to you. (people who I don't like, I don't warn only to eat one piece)

I don't think nails could do it because they can't tangle up in, er, other stuff. The hair doesn't grow in there, it just doesn't pass easily and tends to get tangled up with other hairs, so if you eat hair frequently you'd get one of these. Ugh!

Interestingly, bezoars were on QI the other night, and one popped up in a graphic novel I was reading too. Just like buses, really.

You've been reading Sandman! (Checks quickly), nope I'm not wearing a Sandman tshirt today. Actually, that's quite unusual. Bezoars are in Harry Potter, too.

Yep, but the goats' stomach variety... And very useful they are supposed to be, too!

(See, I've read them, too! )

Two things that freaked me out on first becoming a mother was the results of my child eating raisins and not chewing properly, and bananas - which leave a nappy full of long, worm-like objects - the fibre from the banana.

How in the hell did we get onto this? I spent the morning moving horseshit around, and now we have to talk about nappies? Oh, wait. It's my fault. Damn.

Yup, Sandman it is - and that one about Calliope is one of the best I think. I've been getting my library to get hold of them for me  as I think graphic novels are an underrated form of literature. A shame they always get turned into such lousy movies tho. Did you see League of Extraordinary Gentlemen???

Crappy movies! Also V For Vendetta, Constantine (both of which are based on quintessentially British books, but were transposed into America for the dreadful, dreadful movies). Fair makes you weep. They're supposed to be having a crack at Watchmen next. I daren't look. I'll end up arrested for setting fire to a multiplex cinema.

Chewing gum is made out of elephants ears

Thats not an icecream man - its the kiddy catcher

No those aren't chocolate chips in the cake - they are mushrooms and you hate mushrooms!! (My daughter didn't eat the cake for two weeks. The following week we told her that it was full of micro protien - a relative of the mushroom - another two cakeless weeks!!)

I was sick of nagging my kids in the mornings so one night I snuck into my daughters room and painted all my usual nags in large letters all over her walls. The next morning she thought the faires had been and did as she was told - before I even told her.

It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!
