Should I or Shouldn't I?

Post: # 36028Post Wombat »

Well Gang,

I have been coming inder heavy pressure from above (Mrs Wombat) to shave my beard off as she reckons it makes me look old.

I have had the mustache since I was 18 and the beard when I was 21 and there are very few people I know now who would recognise me without it. All this extra shaving would also have detrimental environmental impacts, think of the hair in the sink alone!

Maybe I should get sponsors for SSish and have an online depilation - who knows.

Anyway, ladies and gentlement of the jury - what is your verdict?

Don't do it!

Beards are natural, scissors/razors are not. We were designed to grow body hair to protect us, so leave it be. Aside from that, think of the pain that you will endure and the time that you will waste by shaving. Shaving is indeed a waste of life! Perhaps to appease Mrs Wombat you could trim your beard a little? It definitely reduces grey coverage, so if this is the main concern, trimming (a little) should keep everybody happy.

Do it! Go on, be a devil! If you don't like it, you can grow it back. But you may discover a new you!

My husband shaved his moustache off many years ago and looked miles younger and has never grown it back (wouldn't be allowed to now!)

Keep the beard - beard wearers are an increasingly oppressed minority. Stand up for your rights and remind Mrs Wombat that "A kiss without a mustache is like an egg without salt".

Or as my OH says: "A man without a beard is like a cat without a tail." She heard that one when living in Egypt some years back.

Mind you, to be fair I should also quote WC Fields: "All the men in my family were bearded, and most of the women."

Oh, and have you ever seen a shaved Wombat? Shudder!

I don't think you should, I mean you look like you've caught the sun somewhat, so surely if you shave, you'll have a nice white skin beard instead.

Yeah, my older brother did that once - shaved his beard off in late July. Then he tried to fix things with some of that 'instant tan' stuff - completely different colour, and a tide mark where the real and fake tans overlapped!

On another note...clearly it's unwise to shave a beard off in the summer - but I certainly won't be shaving mine of in the winter, either! Nice and snug it is, and sometimes I find food in it, or a nest...

Another thought from the OH. She asked if you were turning metrosexual and planned to wax your chest and back next!

Remember, a face with hair is a face with flair...
