He is talking about his own experiences with total self-sufficiency and offers his own opinions about who, why and how. This is the only place I've seen "self-sufficiency begins in the kitchen" explicitly stated, and I believe he is absolutely spot on with that observation. The site can be hard to navigate, but if you manage to do so, you'll be rewarded with some deep insight into the sometimes harsh realities of self-sufficiency.
