Too early for plum moth trap?

Since the weather has been so nice I put it in the tree today but now I'm having doubts

RHS recommends early May, so you may be a little early but not by much.

I don't know how long it was on the ground but it blew off and I couldn't find the pheromone capsule, I put the triangle back on since something could get stuck on the stickiness, but I found it on the ground again. Is it too late to do something for the plums that are forming already?

I think these traps only catch the odd one and that lets you know the moths are about. So you'd still need to keep an eye for any holes on leaves or fruit and then pick off the offending caterpillars etc. Or spray, if you want.

I put the trap in the tree about a week ago and there are some moths stuck in it already. I've got chickens pecking around the ground, will I still need to put a band around the trunk to stop the grubs climbing up?
