Does anyone NOT have a television?

Any issues with what nappies to buy, home schooling etc. In fact if you have kids or are planning to this is the section for you.

I think the problem with film TV sound is that most, if not all, films nowadays are transmitted in Dolby 5.1 sound. That is "surround sound" which needs a pair of rear speakers (as well as 3 front speakers, hence 5.1 (the .1 is a sub woofer).
If you are equipped with surround sound the music and dialog are usually separated and appears to come from different areas of your room.
If you have bog standard TV speakers (possibly even just the one) then all the sound has to come from a single source and will be "unbalanced"
We (of course) have 6 speakers and haven't noticed obtrusive music on films, hence my theory.

We've got one of those soundbars with a separate sub-woofer - doesn't help much, I'm afraid.

Yes but all the sounds still come from one place, rather than 360 degrees.
