They could be large sloes or small damsons. Taste one - damsons are gorgeous! Sloes are more earthy and less sweet. Oh and sloes are like bullets, so if you can bite them easily they're probably damsons.

I don't think these are sloes, sloes are usually quite round, these look more like some kind of wildy damson to me, as GA says, taste one, sloes are so bitter, they will dry your mouth

Thanks both, I tried them and they're definitely damson! Very sweet and plummy. Gin... if there were more I'd try jam with them but they look pretty much over now on the trees I've found. Will try and hunt out some more :)
