Re: Whether the weather will cooperate
After a nice cooler spell with no rain, it has now warmed up and is peeing down once again. Will it ever stop raining, my veg garden now has a deep end and a shallow end

I hope you've put the appropriate warning signs up - no diving at the shallow end, no non-swimmers at the deep end...diggernotdreamer wrote:After a nice cooler spell with no rain, it has now warmed up and is peeing down once again. Re: Whether the weather will cooperate
It's really warm here today - and dry. Daffs are quite far out already - first snowdrops out - was that our winter, or are we getting one yet?
While I'm glad about the warmth because the house isn't quite so freezing, we might store up problems with the slugs etc for later. And we've not had quite enough rain here for all the pests to drown...
Nothing's ever perfect!

Warmer, here, as well. Unfortunately with the warmth come the rain and winds - not like last January yet though.

Re: Whether the weather will cooperate
We have a hooligan wind blowing violent showers - who wants the hooligan? Or some evil showers?
Re: Whether the weather will cooperate
No thanks Flo. It's actually been a fairly nice day here today, although too windy for my liking, but I think it's all downhill tomorrow.
Wouldn't it be nice* if you could know exactly what the weather was going to do three months in advance. It's very tempting with all these relatively warm temperatures to start sowing things far too early, but if I knew there was definitely no icy blast easterly Siberian weather going to clobber us in a month's time .... well it would be nice.
*Not the Beach Boys song as the first line I seem to remember is "Wouldn't it be nice if we were older ...", and that would not be nice at all.

Hmm, probably better than the alternative though, eh?Odsox wrote:"Wouldn't it be nice if we were older ...", and that would not be nice at all.

Re: Whether the weather will cooperate
Try not too, Russ. It's definitely not the weather for bathing.
Brass monkeys up here today, boiler already lit. We rarely light it until the afternoon - if the sun comes out it can be stifling in here with the radiators on. A couple of days ago we didn't light the boiler at all, had the window open most of the day while I made marmalade and just a small electric fire in the evening. This weather is crazy.

Re: Whether the weather will cooperate
Looks like a storm called Gertrude is going to blow merry chaos from here on up northwards. Definitely not co-operating this weather.
Add to flooding, landslips, railways being blocked locally, the Victorian repaired bridge over the river out of the village being damaged by Frank as soon is it re-opened after 17 months of closure and a dead salmon being washed up as part of the flood damage on the village allotments - well the weather since start of December is decidedly not co-operating.

Re: Whether the weather will cooperate
There has been a lull in the weather today so I took the chance to dig over the veg patch sow some Brussels and broad beans in the tunnel and refreshed the containers the poor old apple trees needed re tying back to their supports, so I thought I deserved a rest this afternoon and started weaving a new scarf for myself out of some wool I spun last week, so now it is time for a wee dram and to put my feet up for the rest of the evening

Re: Whether the weather will cooperate
I remember one day in Shetland with no wind at all... Eerie! They are used to wind, but 115 mph is a bit much, even up there.
