Firstly... it was great to meet up with PurpleDragon and Ina today.

Today's event was really very good... it was all set up by volunteers from the Inverurie Environmental Action Group - so three cheers for them!!

There were one or two things that I wasn't impressed with... firstly the fact that one of the main attractions appeared to be the watering truck... inverurie is very proud of it's hanging baskets... which of course need watering regularly.. and of the fact that they've now got a truck in to ferry the water along the streets to enable the watering to be done more easily. Yes.. the flowers did look pretty, but even so! I did suggest to Ina that they could maybe grow herbs.. and that people could harvest them, but as Ina pointed out, there is probably some strange health and safety rule that would prevent that from happening.

I'll get the moans over quickly... the cafe inside was serving drinks out of PLASTIC CUPS!! I suggested that the recycling team collected them up and made several pencils lol.

Today I learnt that you can even put small amounts of dog poo into your green cone... I've had one on my list for ages now anyway and they are subsidised by the council... £10 is not a bad price for them!!

I picked up a couple of bags... and a t shirt... oh boy was I cheeky today, but I will wear with pride and spread the message - reduce reuse recycle! I even won a little bar of fairtrade chocolate cos I spotted the soapnuts in a little dish... they were asking people to guess at what they were and I just blurted out... oooh soapnuts lol...

I wore my selfsufficientish tshirt and a few of the stallholders were very interested in the site and wrote the address down.... (if any of you are reading SAY HELLO  )

I've picked up loads of interesting literature... I've not had chance to read through it all yet but will definitely post any useful advice.

Purpledragon had to leave earlier to make tattie salad for the barbecue she was going to... hope it worked well and that you had a great time Carol  We must meet up again sometime soon.

All in all it was an excellent day and I can't wait for the next one!

It was great to meet you and yours, and Ina as well. It's good to put faces to posts and it also helps to know you aren't the only person locally who is interested, you know?

I noticed that they were just binning the paper plates, plastic cups and empty cans in the cafe bit as well. Bit rich really - I'm surprised none of the organisers said anything. Let's face it - that audience was bound to get into it and sort their waste!

I have a green cone (but no dog) and I use it religiously. Folk who use my kitchen get a bit confused by my waste sorting - what goes in what container. The kids are great with it though. The woman locally to me who rescues dogs uses a green cone to dispose of the waste from them, and she says it is brilliant. Sometimes she has quite a few dogs in her kennels waiting to be rehomed, so it is a godsend for her.

Still jealous of the t-shirt

Yes,. both potato salad and bbq went well. Too many vodkas and a little worse the wear for today's Turriff Show, but I'm still standing :drunken:
